Background
- Founded in 2012 by Dr Klaus Vossenkaul and Dirk Volmering, Membion is a developer and manufacturer of a highly disruptive membrane bioreactor (MBR) solution, with applications in the municipal as well as industrial wastewater treatment sector
- The product, secured by multiple patents, addresses key problems of modern wastewater purification by:
- Reducing energy demand by c.90%
- Requiring substantially less space (c.75%)
- Leading to superior water quality
- Ultimately leading to high saving in operating costs
Process
- DC Advisory was engaged by Membion to assess and execute strategic options, with a key focus on the identification and introduction of Membion’s disruptive solution to potential investors
- DC Advisory ran an extensive process to identify the best partners for Membion – providing strategic advice, preparation of relevant marketing documentation, support in the negotiation phase, and due diligence coordination
Outcome
- In December 2023, Membion successfully completed a funding round led by TechVision Fonds and Deep Tech & Climate Fonds, investment funds with a focus on early-stage and technology-driven companies
- Through this funding, Membion intends to use the funds to ramp-up its production capacities and expand its market reach
