Gollnick Corporate Finance advised the shareholders of STOE & Cie GmbH, Darmstadt, on the strategic partnership with AMI – Advanced Measurement Instruments Group (China, USA) through the sale of a majority stake

The Advanced Measurement Instruments (AMI) Group, a global leader in materials characterization and catalyst analysis, has acquired a majority interest in STOE & Cie GmbH, the renowned German manufacturer of high-precision X-ray diffraction (XRD) instruments.

The combination unites two pioneers in complementary fields of materials characterization—combining AMI’s strengths in chemisorption, physisorption, reactor systems, and gravimetric and thermal analysis with STOE’s expertise in structural analysis via XRD. Together, the companies will offer one of the most comprehensive portfolios of analytical instrumentation for solid-materials research.

Expanding a Global Materials Characterization Platform
Under the new structure, STOE will continue to operate under its established brand from its headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. The management team—Martin Fark and Jens Richter—will remain in their leadership roles and retain an ownership interest, ensuring continuity of STOE’s legacy of precision, reliability, and customer service.

“This milestone represents a significant advancement in AMI’s ongoing expansion into advanced materials characterization,” said Dr. Feng Yang, CEO of Advanced Measurement Instruments, Inc. “STOE’s legacy of German precision engineering complements AMI’s deep experience in sorption, gravimetric, and thermal analysis. Together, we will accelerate innovation and provide researchers with a broader set of integrated solutions for understanding materials at every scale.”

Building on Shared Values and Technical Synergy
The acquisition aligns with AMI’s strategy to build a global materials-characterization platform, spanning sorption and reactors, thermal analysis, and now X-ray diffraction. STOE will serve as AMI’s European Center of Excellence, supporting customers, R&D, applications development, and partners across Europe and beyond. Its advanced engineering capabilities will also strengthen AMI’s manufacturing and technical support infrastructure in the region.

“To me, STOE is all about highest data quality and outstanding support to our customers.”  said Jens Richter, Co-CEO and CTO at STOE, “We look forward to continue and to develop our company within AMI going forward.”

“We are excited to join AMI!” adds Martin Fark, Co-CEO and CFO at STOE, “While preserving the STOE values that made us successful, we will scale up in regions where we have been so far underrepresented: We are now one global team, with a strong regional heritage in the Americas, Europe and Asia.”

Delivering Broader Value to the Global Research Community
AMI’s international presence will help drive STOE’s XRD portfolio into new markets—particularly in North America and Asia—while STOE’s Darmstadt operations will strengthen AMI’s European activities.

“The combination of AMI and STOE creates one of the industry’s most comprehensive and technically aligned instrumentation portfolios—covering textural, structural, and thermal properties,” said Anthony Mitri, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations at AMI. “Both companies share a commitment to scientific excellence and customer partnership. We look forward to expanding our impact together.”

About STOE & Cie GmbH
STOE, founded in 1887, has been a pioneer in powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction since the 1960s. STOE invented the transmission geometry for Powder XRD and developed the first open Eulerian cradle XRD system with a pixel detector for single crystals. With in-house R&D, programming, electrical and mechanical engineering, and production, STOE offers standard and individual solutions, delivering unparalleled quality and precision. STOE has become THE partner in X-Ray Diffraction for crystallographers worldwide.
