Clearwater advises the shareholders of Megatech on its sale to SAPA
We have advised the shareholders of Megatech Industries AG (Megatech), a leading European developer and manufacturer of plastic injection moulded interior and exterior components and systems for the mobility industry, on its sale to Italian mobility supplier, SAPA S.p.A. (SAPA). With SAPA, a strong strategic partner has been found for the Megatech Group in a very demanding market environment, which will continue the company’s good and trusting cooperation with its OEM customers.
Megatech is a global leader in automotive component manufacturing, driven by cutting-edge technology and high-quality products, with the expertise of 1,800 professionals. As a trusted partner to major automotive manufacturers, Megatech develops and delivers innovative technical solutions, operating from nine plants across six countries, along with a dedicated Tech Centre. Headquartered in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, the company has experienced significant growth over the years, expanding its product portfolio and technological capabilities. With expertise in advanced processes like injection moulding, lamination, form pressing, edge folding, sequencing, cutting, and laser marking, Megatech delivers a wide range of interior and exterior components, including door panels, interior pillars, centre consoles, exterior trims, deflectors and wheel arch covers.
Founded in 1974, SAPA is an Italian industrial group specialised in the production and cutting-edge of plastic components for the mobility industry. SAPA is a Tier 1 supplier of well-known car, truck, and agriculture manufacturers like Stellantis, Volkswagen, BMW, Rolls Royce, Iveco, Scania, MAN, Volvo Truck, DAF and Caterpillar. The group operates 13 plants across Italy, the rest of Europe, Africa, and Asia, and employs more than 2,000 people. With a projected revenue of close to €360m in 2024, SAPA produces over 105 million automotive components annually, including interiors, exteriors and powertrain components. Focused on innovation since its foundation, the company uses its patented One-Shot® technology, which allows the production of plastic solutions in a single step, improving efficiency, sustainability and quality for all engine technologies.
With this acquisition, SAPA reinforces its market leadership, combining both companies’ strengths and the scale of its One-Shot® technology to a broader footprint and reach. With Megatech, SAPA further consolidates its established, long-standing relationships with major OEMs such as Volkswagen Group, BMW Group, and Stellantis. The continued pursuit of a diversification strategy across its customers, products and geographies, remains key to SAPA’s future development. This will allow the new Group to further reduce the concentration and volatility risks that is typical of the automotive industry and to expand its global footprint, entering new geographies and reaching economies of scale. In fact, the combination with Megatech is expected to generate synergies, given the complementarity of the relevant technologies, creating a potential true European leader in the plastic injection moulding business for the mobility industry.
