S&B Capital Announces Strategic Investment in NanoChronia

NanoChronia, the Barcelona-based fugitive gas nanosensor company that emerged from The Collider, the Mobile World Capital’s venture builder program, has successfully closed a private investment from Munich, Germany-based S&B Capital. This investment is part of a larger seed round that will allow NanoChronia to accelerate the technological development of its sensor solutions with industry partners, positioning the cutting-edge technology as the emerging standard for the laborious task of measuring fugitive emissions of gas to comply with environmental regulations and ensuring workplace safety.

Key Markets and Benefits
NanoChronia develops cost-effective semiconductor IoT nanosensor systems to detect and monitor fugitive emissions of hydrogen, methane, ammonia, and hydrogen sulphide in realtime. From livestock producers to the oil and gas industry; from heavy industry to waste disposal and mining, all share the need to comply with strengthening governmental regulations requiring the measurement of gas emissions to combat climate change.

The nanosensor solutions have several key benefits, being

• Selective and sensitive (able to detect and distinguish between different gases)
• Inexpensive (semiconductor-based)
• Smaller (nanosized)
• Longer lasting (no consumables no programmed obsolescence)
• Real-time measurement and reporting
• IoT connected enables AI processing on our backend system

As of now, no solution on the market combines all of these benefits, which is why the founding team is pursuing this exciting market segment.

Revolutionary technology
“The combination of extremely small, selective and sensitive nanosensors with our closedloop control system enables NanoChronia to produce a nanosensor solution that is perfectly adapted to the needs of companies that must detect and measure their fugitive emissions in real time for regulatory and safety purposes” says Tomer Alon, CEO of NanoChronia.

Equity is key for speed
Deep tech requires substantial funding to convert basic research into a real-world solution. NanoChronia and its university partners have obtained over 1.5 million euros already and are deploying their business plan step by step.

This private investment builds upon that received from The Collider through the Mobile World Capital, complementing the non-dilutive funding. With this financial support, NanoChronia is hiring key personnel for our team and accelerating our product development: Tomer points out that “the need to economically measure fugitive emissions of gases is becoming a key concern in many sectors, and this financing will help us reduce our time to market and help these industries sooner.”

“As S&B Capital we focus on game changer solutions that are solving real needs in a dynamically changing market. NanoChronia’s unique technology and team are the embodiment of these factors.” said Patrick Seidler and Christoph Blepp, Managing Partners of S&B Capital.

About NanoChronia:
NanoChronia is the fruit of a long-term collaboration between two research groups: one from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili developing the gas nanosensor hardware; and one from the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya developing the sensor control system. Co-founder Eric Navarrete’s PhD research envisaged this technological synergy as the way forward, and NanoChronia is the embodiment of his vision. By combining the research breakthroughs in both its hardware and software components, NanoChronia’s unified nanosensor system is a unique and inexpensive solution to the problem of measuring fugitive emissions of gas. NanoChronia’s co-founders have secured two patents for the technology and have filed two more patents. Further information can be found at www.nanochronia.com.
