Eight Advisory supported CKW on its acquisition of Weggis district heating and cooling networks

Eight Advisory supported CKW through provision of commercial and technical due diligence services as part of the transaction.

CKW, in partnership with Korporation Weggis and the Municipal Community of Weggis, has established Energie Weggis AG to oversee and expand district heating networks in the municipality. This newly formed company, Energie Weggis AG, in which CKW holds an 80% stake and the local entities each hold 10%, has assumed control of the existing Weiher and See heating and cooling networks. The venture aims to operate and expand these existing networks whilst exploring the feasibility of a third network in western Weggis.

This collaboration and acquisition leverages CKW’s extensive experience in energy infrastructure and aligns with the region’s commitment to sustainable heating solutions. The partnership responds to growing local interest in lake-based heating and cooling systems, with a focus on rapid CO2 reduction and renewable energy expansion. The strategic move underscores the shared vision of the stakeholders in advancing environmentally friendly energy solutions for the Weggis community.

CKW (Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke AG) is a subsidiary of Axpo and a leading energy provider in Switzerland. As part of its commitment to the energy transition, CKW is expanding its focus on climate-neutral heat and cooling production, having been supported by Eight Advisory in additional recent district heating acquisitions such as Fernwärme Uettligen AG in 2024.
